How to Make Blood Orange Sangria

Ingredients:

Red wine- Choose an inexpensive red wine that you enjoy for this sangria. I often use a Spanish table wine, Tempranillo, a red blend or merlot.

Triple sec- Typically sangria is made with a brandy, but this case we are elevating the citrus flavor with an orange flavored liquor instead. Feel free to use your favorite orange flavored liquor in your sangria.

Sugar – you can add more or less to taste- or switch it out for honey if you prefer.

Blood oranges – You’ll be juicing three of the oranges for the sangria. If you don’t have enough blood oranges for the sangria recipe, you can switch out the fresh squeezed blood orange juice for one cup of regular orange juice.

Club soda- You’ll top your sangria with club soda when serving it. Feel free to switch out the club soda for your favorite carbonated beverage. You can use ginger ale, a lemon-lime soda, an orange soda or even sparkling water. Or you can skip the carbonated beverage all together!

Instructions:

Slice three blood oranges and place them in the bottom of your pitcher.

Pour the sugar on top of the sliced blood oranges and muddle the fruit and sugar together.

Juice the remaining 2 blood oranges and pour the juice into the pitcher.

Pour the triple sec into the pitcher and stir well.

Add the bottle of red wine and mix.

Refrigerate the sangria for at least a few hours or overnight before serving.

To serve the sangria, fill a glass halfway with ice. Then pour sangria into the glass until it covers the ice. Top with club soda, or your favorite sparkling beverage.
